My minimal skin care routine

Hello everyone, I hope you’ve been enjoying the bank holiday break and it’s been filled with things you love. We’ve had a relatively quiet one cleaning and de-cluttering the spare room with a few gins scattered in between. If you did happen to watch my home tour I posted on Youtube last week and were offended by this room, stop having nightmares, I promise it has vastly improved! Oh, we picked up my wedding dress on Saturday also and I love it ten times more than I did before and even after wine/indian this weekend it still fitted me. YAY. It’s only a few months now and the big day will be here, probably time to get my ducks in a row…

With the wedding coming up and always suffering with congested skin (pretty sure this is because I’m a founding member of the sweaty face club) I really am hoping to have a less than bumpy forehead for the event. When I decluttered the whole house using the Marie Kondo method my skin care and make up bag was one of the hardest things to go through. Being a beauty therapist and a bit of a beauty junkie I had a large collection and I didn’t want to part with any of it. Some of it was over ten years old, I’m not joking, but looking at it all led out on the floor made me feel emotionally tied and the products reminded me of dream matt mousse days long past. Being ruthless I opened (and played) with every single product and said goodbye to whatever I hadn’t used in a year, didn’t look healthy or I couldn’t see myself using again. A big black bag later I am now left with one skincare bag, one makeup bag and a little basket for extra going out* makeup.

Growing into your skin is something that definitely happens and you get older and I now find I don’t try to change the way I look every day. Instead I focus on skin care first, looking after what I’ve been blessed with and after that playing around with make up to enhance my features (and because it’s super fun).

Since drastically simplifying my skin care routine my face has never been clearer which shouldn’t come as a surprise to me as I have found that it most areas of my life. The less I have the happier I seem to be and it turns out my skin is nodding in agreement too. So with out further rambling from me, here’s what I’ve been using.

La Roche Posay hydrating cleansing cream

This was recommended to me by a friend and I will definitely replace when it runs out. It doesn’t leave that tight feeling and doesn’t irritate my eczema prone skin. I also love a french pharmaceutical brand as you’ve probably realised by now so I’m on board.

Flannels/muslin face cloth.

Now I don’t know if any of you follow Caroline Hirons but if you don’t you should. Her no nonsense skin care is a breath of fresh air and she also got me into using a new flannel every day. THIS IS A GAME CHANGER and the top reason my skin has improved so much. They don’t have to be expensive at all and if you are wanting a more Eco option, these look nice. Let me know if you have recommendations also. Thank you Hirons, I salute you.

Garnier Micellar cleansing water.

I use this to remove any left over eye make up and that is it! The bottle lasts forever and using this is much more environmentally friendly than wipes, if you buy the reusable cotton pads, double points to you my friend.

Yves Rocher soothing moisturising cream

This is so light and soothing just like it says on the jar. Pretty packaging also and brings down the redness on my skin. I use this morning and night and it just leaves my face comfortable if you know what I mean? Sadly I don’t believe they are still trading so I will trying a new product next time.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads

If you suffer with congestion and are a member of sweaty face club these are great. I use one pad every other night and wipe it over my clean face before bed and pop my moisturiser on afterwards. It helps remove dead skin cells which helps with congestion, scarring and brightens your complexion. They also do this in a serum formula if you’d rather not use the pads and an extra strong strength too.

So there you have it, my current routine. Super quick, simple and for a product junkie in remission it does the job. The only thing I’m missing is an SPF as I ran out but I will be buying one soon. Please let me know your routines, I love to be nosey!

*Please note when I say “going out” I mean I did myself up to sit in my garden.

Lots of love,

K x
